Lemay wins men's 800 at Husky Preview with eighth-best time in school history

SEATTLE, Wash. - Western Washington University's Keith Lemay (Jr., Blaine/Lynden Christian) placed first in the men's 800 meters, his winning time of 1:54.15 being the eighth best in school history, at the University of Washington Husky Preview Track and Field Meet on Friday at Husky Stadium.

Lemay was one of four Vikings to win events. The others were Michael Dean (Fr., Tacoma/Stadium) in the men's 100 (11.08), Heidi Dimmitt (So., Wenatchee) in the women's 400 hurdles (65.61) and Monika Gruszecki (Fr., Edmonds/Meadowdale) in the women's javelin (136-7).

It was the second straight week that Dean, Dimmitt and Gruszecki had posted victories. They were also victorious at last week's University of Puget Sound Joe Peyton Invitational.

Western's Clara Cook (So., Wenatchee) finished second in the women's high jump (5-3) and Matt O'Connell (Fr., Sammamish/Skyline) was third in the men's 200 (23.06).

Four Viking women placed fourth. They were Dimmitt in the 100 (12.93), Ali Nelson (Fr., Medical Lake/Spokane Falls CC) in the 1500 (5:17.38), Kathryn Mertens (Fr., Olympia) in the 400 (61.21) and Sanna Scruggs-James (Fr., Seattle/Seattle Academy) in the 800 (2:25.91).

O'Connell was fifth in the men's 400 (50.94). Lemay finished sixth in the men's 1500 (3:55.03) as did Bennett Grimes (Fr., Pocatello, ID/Century) in the men's 3000 (8:49.27.

The Vikings are competing in the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational on Saturday.
