BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Goalkeeper Kylie Broadbent (Sr., Spokane/Lewis & Clark) made 10 saves and forward Claire Morgan (So., Bellingham) scored the game's only goal as Western Washington University upset Seattle Pacific University, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game featuring two nationally ranked teams Saturday at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

It was the third straight win for the Vikings, who ranked No.22 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Coaches Poll. They improved to 6-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 conference

Seattle Pacific, rated No.4 nationally, suffered its first loss, dropping to 6-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 league.

"It was a team effort," said Western assistant coach Greg Brisbon. "The girls believed in and stuck with the game plan, and kept working hard all game."

Brisbon was filling in for head coach Travis Connell, who was out of town attending a wedding.

Morgan scored in the 16th minute after she got the ball in front of the goal from Kelly Irving (Jr., Gig Harbor) and punched it in from three yards.

Morgan has scored in each of the last five games, having six goals in all during that stretch.

It was the fourth shutout of the season for Broadbent.
