Box Score

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Outfielder Michelle Wrigley (Fr., Bothell/Inglemoor) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, driving in three runs and scoring three, and pitcher Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville) allowed just three hits as Western Washington University defeated Northwest Nazarene University, 9-1, in a non-conference softball game that was called after six innings because of the eight-run mercy rule Saturday at Viking Field on the WWU campus.

The game was halted for five minutes in the fourth inning because of snow.

It was the third straight win for the Vikings, who improved to 21-15 overall and 8-3 at home. They have scored 20 runs in their last two games after plating just 16 in their previous 10 contests.

NNU lost for the sixth consecutive time, falling to 9-38. The Crusaders are 2-26 away from home this season.

Western pitcher Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville) (4-6) worked all six innings, striking out three and walking two. She won her third straight start, giving up just one hit over the last five frames.

It was the team-leading 11th multi-hit game this season for Wrigley, who raised her team-best batting average to .360.

The Vikings' Kelsey Anderson (Fr., Mount Vernon) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, Liza Teichler (Sr., Sammamish/Skyline) was 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Reina Boersma (Sr., Ferndale) was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

The Vikings scored three runs in the first. Jenna Mohrweis (Fr., Mill Creek/Jackson) drew a lead-off walk and scored when NNU made two errors on a sacrifice bunt by Anderson. Wrigley doubled in Anderson, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on ground out by Meghan Flem (So., Hood River, OR/Hood River Valley).

In the third, Teichler singled across Wrigley, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Western scored three more runs in the fourth, one on a single by Anderson and two on a double by Wrigley.

The Vikings ended the game by scoring two runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Teichler and Lisa Pendergrast (Sr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison).

NNU's only run came in the first when Jael Henthorn led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Katie Free, who was 2-for-3.

Western completes a nine-game home stand Sunday (11 a.m.), meeting arch-rival Central Washington University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader. It will be senior day with the Vikings' Katie Barker (Sr., Auburn/Auburn-Riverside), Boersma, Pendergrast and Teichler being honored.
